Phonics

Today we are learning about the digraph ‘y’ making the ‘igh’ sound in words sky, my and reply. Previously we have learnt about the ‘y’ phoneme making a short ‘y’ sound in words like yoga and yak and a long ‘ee’ sound in words like happy and sunny. Here is a video to watch going through some words where ‘y’ makes the ‘igh’ sound: y for /igh/ sound - Mr Thorne Does Phonics - YouTube

Talk about the ‘y’ for ‘igh’ sound.  Can you say the sound?  Can you write the sound? Look at the activity sheet attached to this blog and fill in the missing sounds for each word. Can you write a sentence with one of the ‘y’ words in?

English

Yesterday we heard about Traction Man and some of his amazing outfits. Today we would like you to describe one of his outfits.

You can choose which one you describe. Where does Traction Man use this outfit? What special features does it have? What colour is the outfit? What is it made from? Remember to use adjectives to describe the outfit. A writing template is attached to this blog.

You can watch a version of the story to remind yourself of his outfits and how they are described using this link: Traction Man is here - Books Alive! Read Aloud children’s book - YouTube
