Term 1, week 7

Week 7, term 1

This week in Maple Class:

English

This week we will continue our unit based on the book Stone Age Boy, by Satoshi Kitamura. The children will be using their research from last week, to prepare for a debate.

Whole Class Reading

We will be using an extract from the book ‘The Boy Who Grew Dragons’, by Alan Sheperd. The children will work independently, in groups and as a whole class, to look at the vocabulary, retrieve information and make inferences about the text.

Maths

This week, we will begin the second unit, Addition and Subtraction. We will start with revisiting some of the year 2 skills and adding and subtracting 1s, 10s and 100s.

Time and Place

We will continue the Stone Age to Iron Age topic, this week investigating how the introduction of bronze impacted on the way people lived their lives during that time.

Science

Continuing our unit on Rocks and Soils with Mrs Banner.

Computing

This week we will begin learning how to use keyboards efficiently.

RE

Continuing the People of God unit, we will investigate the story of Abraham, to build on the understanding of a covenant and begin linking this to our understanding of how Christians live their lives today.

Art

We will continue our portrait unit by looking at the work of Picasso and creating college portraits.

PE

This week we will have PE on Tuesday and Friday, building on our Netball skills.  Please make sure to send your child in with a PE kit, hat and water bottle.

Reading Records and Homework

Reading records need to be in school on a Monday and Thursday. If your child wants to change their book on another day, we will do our best to accommodate this. Homework books will be sent out on Tuesdays and need to be returned the following Monday. I have shown the children how to locate the reading element on Purple Mash, as there seems to be an issue with the link. However, if you have any questions about this, or any part of the homework, please email the class email address.

If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.

Kind regards

Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
