Term 1 Week 6

Here is an outline of your learning for Term 1 Week 6:

Term 1 Week 6 – overview

We will have our ukulele lesson on Monday afternoon.  We are fortunate to be taught by Mr Lawrence and all instruments are provided by the school.  If you do have your own ukulele and would like to bring it in, you are more than welcome to do so!

Our spelling words this week are words with the suffix ‘sion’.  We will be carrying out a range of activities to embed these spellings.  Our handwriting session will focus on the correctly formed letter t.

In English, we are continuing our work based around Roman gods and goddesses.  We will be reading the story The Oak and The Linden Tree.  We will be using our understanding of some themes of Roman myths to make predictions.  We will also be using the story to write from different character perspectives.

In Maths, we will be completing our unit on place value, ending it with an assessment.  We will then move on to addition and subtraction.  We will be adding and subtracting 1, 10, 100 and 1,000 to a number, and then adding 4-digit numbers with no exchange. We will also be practising times tables.  Our target in Year 4 is to be secure in all times tables up to 12s, and we take the Multiplication Table Check in the summer term.

In RE, we will be continuing our unit on Creation.  We will be considering what message the creation story has for today.

In History, we will be learning about the resistance to the Roman occupation of Britain, particularly in the form of the Celtic leader Boudicca.  We will learn the story of the rebellion and consider how she was portrayed in written records from the past.

In Science, we are going to be learning about the water cycle, which will involve the concepts of evaporation and condensation.

PE will take place on Monday and Wednesday afternoons with Mr Goodyer.  Please ensure that your child has a named PE kit in school all week.

Reading records will be coming home this week.  We would like pupils to bring them in on Tuesday and Friday each week.  If your child is reading books from the reading scheme, these will be changed for them.  If your child is a free-reader, they will be responsible for changing their book.
