Week 5, term 1

This week in Maple Class:

English

This week we will continue our unit based on the book Stone Age Boy, by Satoshi Kitamura. The children will be writing postcards from the Strone Boy! We will be introducing adverbial phrases and using our imagination to decide what the boy might write.

Whole Class Reading

We will be using an extract from the book Henry Pond the Poet, by Dick King-Smith. The children will work independently, in groups and as a whole class, to look at the vocabulary, retrieve information and make inferences about the text.

Maths

This week, we will focus on using a number line to 1,000 and then comparing numbers to 1,000.

Time and Place

We will continue the Stone Age to Iron Age topic, looking at how Neolithic farmers settled in places like Skara Brae.

Science

Continuing our unit on Rocks and Soils with Mrs Banner.

Computing

This week we will investigate how computing systems and networks are connected.

RE

We will be going to church this week for the Harvest Festival service.

Art

We have started our portrait unit and this week we will experiment with skin tones.

PE

This week we will only have PE on Tuesday and Friday. We will continue our Netball unit.  Please make sure to send your child in with a PE kit, hat and water bottle.

Reading Records and Homework

Reading records need to be in school on a Monday and Thursday. If your child wants to change their book on another day, we will do our best to accommodate this. Homework books will be sent out on Tuesdays and need to be returned the following Monday. I have shown the children how to locate the reading element on Purple Mash, as there seems to be an issue with the link. However, if you have any questions about this, or any part of the homework, please email on the class email address.
