Term 1 Week 5

Here is an outline of your learning for term 1, week 5:

Term 1 Week 5 – overview

We will have our ukulele lesson on Monday afternoon.  We are fortunate to be taught by Mr Lawrence and all instruments are provided by the school.  If you do have your own ukulele and would like to bring it in, you are more than welcome to do so!

Our spelling words this week are homophones.  We will be carrying out a range of activities to embed these spellings.  Our handwriting session will focus on the correctly formed letter u.

In English, we are continuing our work based around Roman gods and goddesses.  We will be reading the story of Romulus and Remus, which is said to tell the story of how Rome was founded.  We will be using the interaction between the brothers to practise creating speech bubbles and then tackling correctly punctuated direct speech.  We will also compare different versions of the same myth.

In Maths, we will be continuing a unit on place value, starting with rounding to the nearest 10, before moving on to rounding to the nearest 100 and thousand.  We will then practise mixed rounding.  We will also be practising times tables.  Our target in Year 4 is to be secure in all times tables up to 12s, and we take the Multiplication Table Check in the summer term.

In RE, we will be continuing our unit on Creation.  We will be learning about some Christians who consciously protect creation in their daily lives and actions.  We will be considering what we could do to make the world a good place.

In History, we will be learning about the resistance to the Roman occupation of Britain, particularly in the form of the Celtic leader Boudicca.  We will learn the story of the rebellion and consider how she was portrayed in written records from the past.

In Science, we are going to be learning about the different melting points of metals as part of our unit on states of matter.

PE will take place on Monday and Wednesday afternoons with Mr Goodyer.  Please ensure that your child has a named PE kit in school all week.

Reading records will be coming home this week.  We would like pupils to bring them in on Tuesday and Friday each week.  If your child is reading books from the reading scheme, these will be changed for them.  If your child is a free-reader, they will be responsible for changing their book.
