Term 1 Week 4

Here is your learning for term 1, week 4:

Term 1 Week 4 – overview

On Tuesday we have a visit from Bishop Luke.  In the afternoon we will have mass at church and in the evening there will be a service at church where members of school will be baptised, confirmed and admitted for communion.

We will have our ukulele lesson on Monday afternoon.  We are fortunate to be taught by Mr Lawrence and all instruments are provided by the school.  If you do have your own ukulele and would like to bring it in, you are more than welcome to do so!

Our spelling words this week have the prefixes ‘ir’ and ‘il’.   We will be carrying out a range of activities to embed these spellings.  Our handwriting session will focus on the correctly formed letter i.

In English, we are beginning work based around Roman gods and goddesses.  We  will be becoming familiar with some legends and the conventions of how these are told.

In Maths, we will be continuing a unit on place value, starting with estimating on number lines to 10, 000, ordering numbers to 10,000, comparing numbers to 10, 000 and working with Roman numerals.  We will also be practising tables.  Our target in Year 4 is to be secure in all times tables up to 12s, and we take the Multiplication Table Check in the summer term.

In RE, we will be continuing our unit on Creation.  We will be thinking about what message the text of Genesis gives to Christians in terms of caring for our world.

In art, we will be looking at the work of the artist Giorgio Morandi, whose work is still life using very muted colours.

PE will take place on Monday and Wednesday afternoons with Mr Goodyer.  Please ensure that your child has a named PE kit in school all week.

Reading records will be coming home this week.  We would like pupils to bring them in on Tuesday and Friday each week.  If your child is reading books from the reading scheme, these will be changed for them.  If your child is a free-reader, they will be responsible for changing their book.
