Term 1 Week 2
In English and Communication this week, we are going to continue to explore the book 'Something Else'. We will focus on creating direct speech from the point of view of characters from the book. We will use 'who' and 'what doing' phrases to create grammatically sound sentences. We will also explore how 'where' phrases can be used to add detail. Finally, we will focus on how to use full stops and question marks to end sentences.
In phonics this week, we are revisiting, using and applying our Phase 3 phonics learning. We have attached the Phase 3 sounds and tricky words to the blog so you can practise at home.
In Guided Reading, we are using Vocabulary, Inference, Prediction, Explanation and Summary skills to answer questions about the book 'Something Else.'
In Maths, we are continuing to explore Place Value. We will begin by recognising 10s and 1s in 2-digit numbers. Then we will focus on how to use a Place Value grid to record our thinking. Finally, we will develop our partitioning skills to split 2-digit numbers into their 10s and 1s parts. If you would like to practise some of these skills, we have attached learning videos and worksheets to the blog.
In Science and Computing, we are exploring how Information Technology can be used in a school environment. Then we will use laptops and an online game to learn about The Great Fire of London. Feel free to play this game at home with adult supervision:

In Time and Place, we are going to use a walking Timeline activity and the 'Street Through Time' resources to help place the year 1666 into chronological context. This book is a really great tool for developing an understanding of time- we can thoroughly recommend it!

In PE, we will be developing our ball skills and understanding of invasion games.
We will also complete Design and the Arts and Mastering Number activities as well.
