Term 6 Week 5

Here is an overview of our learning activities for the week commencing 29th June 2026.

This week Willow Class will be having swimming lessons in the morning each day (Monday to Friday). Please could all the Year 1 children come to school ready for the pool (underneath your uniform), so that you are ready for swimming from 9am after the registers have been taken. Please ensure they bring with them these items on a daily basis:

  • Appropriate swimwear. This is a one-piece swimming costume for girls and swimming shorts for boys (essential)
  • A towel (essential)
  • Swimming cap (essential). Soft fabric ones are available online – they are a lot easier than the plastic ones.
  • Strong plastic named bag (essential)
  • Slider/pool shoes for going to and from the changing areas (essential)
  • Goggles (desirable)
  • T-Shirt (non-essential)
  • Underwear for after swimming (essential)

In our main phonics lessons, we will be learning about words containing an unspoken ‘e’, such as give, freeze, dance and mouse. We will also be reading the words ‘know’ and ‘colour’ and writing the words ‘April’ and ‘July’.

In Maths, we will be learning about the concepts of before and after and ordering the days of the week and months of the year.

In RE, we will be listening to the story of The Monkey King, and we will then complete some activities linked to this.

In Computing, we will be designing our own programs for Scratch Jnr.

In PE, we will be continuing to develop our athletic skills. Please make sure your child’s PE kit is in school on Tuesday afternoon and Friday morning.

If you have any questions or need help with anything, please contact us using the class email address (willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk).
