Term 6 Week 1

Here is an outline of your learning for term 6, week 1:

Term 6 Week 1 – overview

We have our ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence as usual this week.

Spelling and grammar – we will be working on some of the spelling errors identified in our Beowulf stories.

In guided reading, we will be focusing on a different text extract each week in order to practise a range of reading comprehension strategies.  We will be covering fiction, nonfiction and poetry.

In English, we will be editing and improving our Beowulf stories.  We will work together to check and correct spellings, punctuation and ensure we have included the correct features for a hero myth.  We will then make neat copies and design a book cover for our finished pieces.

We are continuing with fractions in maths by looking at improper fractions, converting mixed numbers into improper fractions and vice versa.  This week, we will also begin taking the Multiplication Table Check.

In Science, we will be learning about the differences between human teeth and animal teeth as the last of our lessons on the human digestions system

In RE we will be finishing the Gospel unit, thinking about the kind of world that Jesus wanted.  This week we be considering what the world is like and what it could be like.

In History, we will be thinking about what life was like in Anglo Saxon settlements, comparing it to what we know about Roman life in Britain.

PE is on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon.   This term we are doing athletics and will be preparing for sports day!

Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
