Term 5 Week 5

Here is an outline of your learning for term 5, week 5:
Term 5 Week 5 – overview
We have our ukulele lesson with Mr Lawrence as usual this week.
Spelling and grammar – we will be learning to spell words with the prefix ‘inter’.
We will be finishing our whole class guided reading text, Lob. The pupils have engaged so well with this text, and I have noticed a real engagement with the new vocabulary they have encountered each week. Next term, we will be using a shorter text extract each week and focusing on some specific skills that need developing.
In English, we will be working hard on writing our own versions of Beowulf. There is a lot of excitement about putting pen to paper to bring to life the characters and settings we have created. After half-term, we will carry on the Chestnut Class tradition of publishing our stories for the book corner!
We are continuing with fractions in maths by looking at fractions greater than 1 whole, fractions on a number line, partitioning mixed numbers and comparing and ordering mixed numbers. We will continue learning and consolidating times tables as we prepare for the Multiplication Tables Check in June.
In Science, we will be continuing with our tooth decay experiment. We have designed and set up an experiment using hard-boiled eggs and 4 different liquids. Each day we will be checking them and drawing conclusions from our findings.
In RE, we will be working on the Gospel unit, thinking about the kind of world that Jesus wanted. This week we be considering what the world is like and what it could be like.
PE is on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon. This term we are doing athletics and cricket.
Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme. All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class. Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
