Term 4 Week 3

What we are learning in Lilac Class for the week beginning 9.3.26
What we are doing this week in Lilac Class for the week beginning 9.3.26
For Maths this week in Lilac Class, we are recognising thousandths as fractions and decimals using partitioning and by exchanging place value decimal counters. We will also be ordering and comparing decimals with up to 3 decimal places. We will be learning that 0.41 has more tenths than 0.365 and that it does not matter that 0.41 has fewer decimal places, it still has the greater value.
In English this week in Lilac Class, we are levelling up our poems about the workhouse. We will be checking that we have used examples of the features of poetry writing, such as onomatopoeia, alliteration, personification, expanded noun phrases, similes and metaphors.
For Whole Class Guided Reading Lilac Class are reading Chapters 15 and 16 of Berlie Doherty’s Street Child entitled ‘Josh’ and ‘Boy in Pain’. We are finding evidence in the text that tells us whether Grimy Nick likes Jim and why we think Jim wished he had a brother and how he felt when the dog was given a bone. We are also predicting why the next chapter is entitled ‘The Monster Weeps’ by thinking about who might the monster be and why might they be crying.
For RE in Lilac Class, we are examining the events leading up to Jesus’s resurrection in the Gospels. We will be discussing the events that we felt were most important to us and annotating texts.
For Time and Place, Lilac Class are learning about diseases and medical care during the Victorian period and what developments and improvements were made. What would our health care system be like without the contributions Florence Nightingale made, for example? For Science in Lilac Class, we are demonstrating how an irreversible change creates a new material. We are observing a chemical change that takes place when vinegar is mixed with bicarbonate of soda, producing carbon dioxide. In ICT, we are continuing with our work on flat files. This week we are learning that you can answer questions by grouping and then sorting data.
In French, Lilac Class are learning words for different French food and designing our own French menus. We will also practise speaking French working in pairs, using the phrases for ‘What would you like?’ ‘Can I help you?’ ‘I would like’ and ‘Would you like anything else?’
For Design and the Arts this week, we are creating printing blocks for our wallpaper based on our designs inspired by William Morris. In Music, we are learning to sing ‘Food, Glorious Food’ from the Musical Oliver!
