Term 3 Week 4

Our learning from Term 3 Week 4

This week has been full of exciting learning across the curriculum, with lots of enthusiasm from the children!

Phonics
In phonics, we have begun learning our Level 3 sounds and tricky words. This week we introduced the tricky word “he”, along with the new sounds ‘j’ and ‘v’. The children practised saying the sounds, learning the actions, writing the sounds, and reading and writing words containing them.
We also completed our Level 2 phonics assessment this week, and the children did a fantastic job showing what they know—well done to everyone for working so hard!

Maths
In maths, we have been representing numbers in different ways using a dice frame, supported by the song 5 Little Aliens. We also explored double dice frames to represent numbers such as 6 (5 and 1 more) and 7 (5 and 2 more), and revisited the idea of numbers being equal.
We have also been comparing height, using language such as taller, shorter, and same height.

Understanding the World
Our topic focus has been dinosaurs! We explored what dinosaurs ate and learnt about palaeontologists through a class PowerPoint. The children then had a go at labelling dinosaurs on a worksheet.
On Tuesday, we combined maths and understanding the world by measuring our feet and counting how many of our own feet fit into life-size dinosaur footprints. We discussed why some dinosaurs had very large feet and why others had smaller ones, comparing them to our own.

Art and Design
In art, we explored printing by using different-sized dinosaur shapes. The children printed dinosaurs onto paper and then decided whether they belonged on the big footprint side or the small footprint side, linking back to our learning about size.

PE
In PE, we have been working on communicating with a partner, keeping score, and understanding how scoring works. We also focused on working safely while developing our running and stopping skills. The children enjoyed pretending to be cars, following different instructions and directions.

Star of the week: Congratulations to Moore, who is our star of the week, for always concentrating and joining in with every lesson! Moore will be taking home her certificate and Wilfred the Elephant to write in the book all about her time spent with Wilfred over the next week and will bring him back next Thursday.

Please remember to read with your child, even for just 5 minutes! Please also remember to record it in the reading record. We will only change your child's book if you have read with them 2 or more times in that week! Reading books are changed on Tuesday's and Friday's. Please also remember to have the library book in your children's book bag on Thursday to be changed.

Any issues or concerns we need to know about, please speak to the Acorn team before and after school or email at: acorn@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

It has been another busy and enjoyable week—well done to the children for their brilliant effort and enthusiasm!
