Term 3 Week 4

Here is an outline of your learning for term 3, week 4:

Term 3 Week 4 – overview

Spelling and grammar – we will be working on words from the year 3 and 4 spelling list.  We will also be revisiting adverbials of time, place, manner and frequency to enrich our writing.

We have worked hard to correct our Pompeii stories.  We are now carefully copying them up and designing professional-looking covers.  It will be very exciting to have 29 new adventure stories in our reading area.

When we have completed these, we will be starting a piece of information writing about the water cycle.  This will link to our new science unit on states of matter.

In Maths, we will work on our second multiplication and division unit.  This week will involve learning about and using factor pairs and multiplying numbers by 10.  On Thursday we dedicate time to working on our personal times tables targets.  Regular, short burst practise at home will really support this.  Each week, pupils are progressing towards their personal targets which is very encouraging.

In RE, we will be learning about the distinctiveness of the 4 accounts of the Gospel written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

We will begin our science unit on States of Matter.  We will be learning about the properties of solids, liquids and gases.  This will involve developing an understanding of particle arrangement and behaviour.  We will use this learning to classify items into the three categories.

In art, we will be attempting to blend paint to match the muted shades used by Giorgio Morandi, before we create our own still life paintings.

PE is on Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon.  This term we focus on gymnastics and fitness.

Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
