Term 3 Week 1

Here is an outline of your learning for term 3, week 1:

Term 3 Week 1– overview

Welcome back!

Mr Lawrence will be with us on Monday afternoon to continue with ukulele lessons!

Spelling and grammar – we will be consolidating the spelling words we have worked on over the course of last term.  We will also be powering up sentences using more interesting adjectives.

In English, we will be tackling our Pompeii escape story that had to be postponed in the autumn term.  We had so many wonderful ideas, and it will be fantastic to bring our two main characters to life in an exciting narrative.  We will be writing, editing and publishing these stories over the next 2 weeks.

In Maths, we will work on the 3, 6 and 9-times table multiplication and division facts, examining the relationships and patterns we can identify.  We will then work on the 7- and 11-times tables.  On Thursday we dedicate time to working on our personal times tables targets.  Regular, short burst practise at home will really support this.  Each week, pupils are progressing towards their personal targets, which is very encouraging.

In RE, we will be looking at the accounts of the Gospel, written by Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.  We will consider what Gospel means and what the news was that they wrote of.

We will continue to explore sound in our science lesson, with an experiment on the relationship between distance and sound.

In history, we will think about the Roman technologies that changed Britain and are still in evidence today!

Computing this term will be on repeating shapes.

PE continues to be on a Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon.  Our units of work this term are gymnastics and fitness.

Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.
