Term 1, week 6

This week in Maple Class:
English: this week, we will be continuing to use the book ‘Stone Age Boy’, by Satoshi Kitamura. We will be focusing on debating skills, asking and answering questions to persuade an audience.
Whole Class Reading: this week we will again be using lyrics. This time, the lyrics of ‘This is Me’, from the Greatest Showman. The children will discuss the vocabulary and answer comprehension questions, both as a group, in pairs and independently.
Maths: the main focus will continue to be Place Value. We will build on ordering numbers to 1,000 and counting in 50s.
Science: we will continue investigating rocks and soils, and will also be creating our own fossils.
Computing: we will be learning about computer networking, and further investigating the school network system.
Time and Place: continuing with our Stone Age project, this week we will be investigating hillside forts.
Art: this week, we will be continuing the still life unit, challenging ourselves to use watercolours.
RE: this term, we are investigating People of God and what it means to follow God.
PE is on a Wednesday and Friday this term, and we will be continuing the hockey unit. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.
Homework will be issued on Tuesday as usual, and is due back next Monday. Please try to read with the children and encourage them to put their reading records and homework books in the basket in the classroom.
