Term 1, week 3

This week will look a little different, as we will be completing some baseline assessments. These will take place in the mornings, with our normal, wider curriculum subjects during the afternoons.
Whole Class Reading: this week we will use lyrics from the Matilda song ‘When I grow Up’, with the children discussing the vocabulary and answering comprehension questions, both as a group, in pairs and independently. I am sure there will be some singing too!
Science: we will continue identifying and grouping rocks.
Computing: we will be learning about computer networking.
Art: this week, we will begin the Still Life unit, experimenting with different mediums.
RE: this term, we are investigating People of God and what it means to follow God.
PE is on a Wednesday and Friday this term, (not Mondays, as incorrectly mentioned in last week’s blog), and we will be looking at the ‘Fundamentals’ of PE over the next few weeks. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.
The children should read daily to an adult. If you feel a book sent home is either too hard or too easy, however, please do get in touch. The levels will initially be based on advice from the Year two team.
Homework will be sent out on Tuesday, with details also posted on the class blog. It has been great to see some of the Wider Matrix homework too.
If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office.
Kind regards
Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
