Term 1, week 2

Welcome to this week’s blog post. After a great week last week, here is an outline of the learning for the coming week.

English: this week, we will continue to base our learning on the book, ‘The Boy Who Loved Maps’, by Kari Allen. The children will be continuing with their story writing, based on the text.

Whole Class Reading: this week we will using an extract from ‘The BFG’, by Roald Dahl, with the children discussing the vocabulary and answering comprehension questions, both as a group, in pairs and independently.

Maths: the main focus will continue to be Place Value. We will revise hundreds and then investigate thousands, including partitioning of numbers to 1,000.

Science: we will continue identifying and grouping rocks.

Computing: we will be learning about computer networking.

Art: this week, we will be creating our own cave paintings.

RE: this term, we are investigating People of God and what it means to follow God.

PE is on a Monday and Wednesday this term, and we will be looking at the ‘Fundamentals’ of PE over the next few weeks. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.

Reading records will be coming home this week and, ideally, the children should read daily to an adult. If you feel a book sent home is either too hard or too easy however, please do get in touch. The levels will initially be based on advice from the Year two team.

If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please do email on the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.

Kind regards

Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
