Term 6 Week 7

Our learning from Term 6 Week 7

What a fantastic final week we’ve had in Reception!

Phonics

In phonics, we have been working on recognising and using upper and lower case letters. We also learnt two new tricky words from Phase 4 – some and come. The children have continued to work hard on their blending and segmenting skills and are showing great progress.

Maths

In maths, we’ve been revisiting number sequencing and solving missing number problems within 10. We’ve been using our rekenreks to consolidate our understanding of doubles, number bonds to 5 and 10, and exploring 1 more and 1 less.

Understanding the world

For Understanding the World, we explored using laptops safely. We began by discussing online safety and talked about the do’s and don’ts when using the internet. The children then had a chance to draw a picture using a drawing program and practised writing their names using the keyboard and trackpad, learning to locate letters and navigate the screen confidently.

It’s been an exciting week filled with special events too! We were lucky to attend the Year 6 leavers’ Mass and watch their dress rehearsal – the children loved cheering them on. We also had the opportunity to try a Vietnamese drink made by Year 2 and learn a little bit about Vietnamese culture – what a fun way to explore the wider world!

On our last day, we celebrated with some party food, watched films, and enjoyed being together one final time as a Reception class.

Star of the week: Congratulations to Dyuthi, who is our stars of the week for being an all round amazing pupil all year long. Dyuthi will be taking home her certificates this week.

Any issues or concerns we need to know about, please speak to the Acorn team before and after school or email at: acorn@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. If you have any concerns or issue to discuss before year 1 please email: willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

It has been such a joy to teach this wonderful group of children. We are incredibly proud of all the progress they’ve made and how much they’ve grown. We look forward to seeing them continue to shine as they move into Year 1.

Have a wonderful summer and thank you for all your support this year!
