Phonics teaches children to be able to listen carefully and identify phonemes (a unit of sound) that make up each word. This helps the children to learn to read and spell words.

In school, we introduce writing letters in a pre cursive script with lead ins. When forming each letter the pen/pencil should always start at the bottom and not lift off the page until the end of the letter (except for i, t etc).
