Chestnut Class

Week Beginning: 27th April

Dear Chestnut parents/carers and children,

Your core learning for the week is set out in this letter.

Reading: Read Chapters 19 and 20 of Varjak Paw, which are provided for you.  There are also some questions to answer.  See if you can follow the pattern we have adopted of reading and re-reading before answering the questions.

Please also make sure you are carrying out additional reading each day.  You could use the grid below to explain what you are reading to an adult.

Oxford Owls  This website provides access to free reading material.  You will need to use the log on: chestnut101 and the password: pupil

Spelling - Please log onto Purple Mash and complete the spelling 2DO.  Continue to practise these words as you would in class, using a range of strategies such as pyramid words.  You have also been set some grammar activities(Purple Mash and a Classroom Secrets activity on Standard English).

Writing - I have set you a free writing activity based on designing your own robot.  Think about all the things your robot servant would do for you and what it would look like.  Use all the skills you have learned in descriptive writing.

Maths:

I have provided sheets relating to fractions and I recommend tackling them in the following order:

Numerator and denominator

What is a fraction?

Colour and label fractions

2 sheets on equivalent fractions with a factions wall to support your learning

You also have 3 tasks set on the website Mathswithparents.  These are related to number skills that we have covered over the year (addition and subtraction of 10s, addition of 1s, 10s and 100s, and subtraction of 1s, 10s and 100s).

You will need to log on using the Chestnut Class code: 946434

Number Fluency:  There are  tasks set on MyMaths.  In addition, you can use Purple Mash to practise times tables fluency.

Wider Curriculum

Wider curriculum activities should be selected from the matrix you have also been sent.  The matrix provides a fortnight of activities.

I hope you are all well.

Take care,

Mrs Barter
