2d. Week Twelve Monday 29th June

Home Learning Plans

Willow Class

Week Beginning: Monday 29th June 2020

Dear Willow Class parents/carers and children,

The core learning for this week is set out below.

Reading

All children should read an age appropriate text for a minimum of 20 minutes per day. This can be a reading book or sharing a picture book with an adult. When completing guided or supported reading of an age appropriate text, focus on application/synthesis questioning. Use the application/synthesis section of this questioning tool to generate questions that challenge your child to apply their understanding and synthesise what has happened in the story so far.

For example:

-Why should they do that?

-Why might they not want to do that?

-How might the character feel here?

  • Read the story and then talk about the story and do the activities on pages 5 and 7 of the booklet.
  • Retell the story using time connectives (First, Then, Next, After that, Finally).
  • Explore and write some descriptive words about food that you like or food you might take on a picnic.
  • Explore collective nouns for groups of animals.
  • Plan your own picnic and write a list of things you would take.
  • Write your own story about Brian Bear.

Maths:

This week we are continuing to learn about ordering numbers to 100. There are some activity sheets included with this pack and work has also been set on MyMaths (please let me know if you need your child’s password resent) and Maths with Parents - class code 193691      https://www.mathswithparents.com/KWeb

Ordering Numbers

This is carried over from last week. Children should be ordering sets of objects and numbers from smallest to largest and largest to smallest. Ask questions like: Which should we start with? Which is the biggest/has the most? Which is the smallest/has the least? Which number/group comes next? How do you know? How many more/less objects are in group A than group B? There is an activity sheet you can complete.

Ordinal Numbers

Practice using ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc.) to order objects in a group and to find a particular position within a group.

Finding one more and one less

Children should be finding one more and one less than given numbers or amounts up to 100.

Children to use objects/resources where possible and physically add 1 more or take 1 away before moving to more abstract methods such as number tracks or hundred squares. Ask questions such as: Do we need to add more or take some away? How can we represent this?

How many tens were there? How many tens are there now? How many ones were there? How many ones are there now? Which place value column changes when finding 1 more and 1 less? What happens when I find 1 more than a number with 9 ones? What happens when I find 1 less than a number with 1 one?

Wider Curriculum.

Please pick activities of your choice from the wider curriculum matrix which was included in this week’s pack.

Best wishes.
