Maple Class

Week Beginning: Monday 29nd June

Maple Class’ topic is ‘Cool Britannia’, an exploration of the country we live in. A lot of our learning is based around exploring Great Britain.

Maple Class now have a blog, which you can find on the schools website. I would love to see any work that you are proud of please email it to maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk  I am also really happy to answer any questions or give any advice I can.

We have been looking at nonsense poems for the past few weeks; Michael Rosen is a wonderful poet and storyteller of nonsense. This week he came home after being in hospital with Covid19  – Hooray!

Spelling

  • First, try to find the words in the wordsearch.
  • Pick 10 words from the wordsearch and write a short story that uses them as much as you can
  • Select a different 10 words from the wordsearch and draw and label a picture to illustrate each one or several at the same time.

 

Writing  

  • This week I would like you to work through the Talk For Writing booklet, ‘The Truth about Trolls’
  • Talk for writing is intended to be done as a conversation between an adult and a child, with some of the activities being completed independently.
  • Read through the story and choose the activities to complete

 

Maths:

This week we are starting to look at mass and capacity. This week we will look at mass

  • If you have a set of scales, try measuring how heavy things are. What units are there? Do you know what the difference between grams and kilogrammes? Can you find out?
  • Can you find out what you weigh in kilogrammes? Can you convert it to grams by multiplying it by 1000?
  • Go to Maths with Parents, watch the video and have a go at the activities
  • Do your choice of the Measure Mass 1 worksheets
  • For extra challenge, thy the Measure Maths 1 varied fluency sheets
  • Now try the Measure Mass 2 worksheets
  • For extra challenge, thy the Measure Maths 2 varied fluency sheets
