Tuesday 19th January

Daily Plans for Tuesday 19th January 2021

19.1.21

* Remember to dip into your project ‘My Famous Victorian’ when you have some spare time.

MORNING

1. Maths

Please work through the White Rose Learning Video using the link vimeo.com/469694302 about prime numbers.  This is the first of two learning videos about prime numbers and brings together everything we have learnt so far with regards to our new block of learning.  I will give you the written worksheet task when you have also worked through the second learning video tomorrow. Please have a piece of paper and a pen or pencil to jot down your answers and working out.  Remember to pause the video when you need to do calculations and give yourself plenty of time. Also remember that the answers are always given by the person who is presenting the videos.

2.  English

1. Today we are focusing on Chapter 2 The Stick Man of ‘Street Child’ by Berlie Doherty.  I would like you to consider the question: ‘Is Mr Spink right or wrong to ask Jim Jarvis and his family to leave his house?’  Draw a line down the middle of a piece of paper or fold a piece of paper in half.  On one side write down the reasons why he was wrong and on the other side write down the reasons why he was right.  We are shocked by his behaviour today but remember this is Victorian London and life is hard for the poor. Think carefully about why he was also right to do this. Look carefully at what he says from pages 20-24.  Use bullet points to present your ideas.

2.  Continue working through your ‘Talk for Writing’ Booklet.  Today I would like you to complete Activity 12, page 18-19.  Look carefully at how the paragraphs are structured and how each paragraph writes about a different subject.  ‘Magpie’ any useful words or phrases that you could use in your own report writing.  Then on page 20, Activity 13 complete the planning sheet and remember to add some of your own sections on the left hand side.

AFTERNOON

3.  Reading

Please remember to read independently for 40 minutes!  For your 30 minute Guided Reading Session I would like you to read Chapters 4 and 5 with your grown up as a paired reading activity.  Take turns and talk about any tricky words that you find and what you think they may mean, looking carefully at the sentence it is in.

 PE

For your PE session today that you can do at home I would like to watch and work through Lesson 3 ‘Throwing for Accuracy’.  The link is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvySZYSZFNY&feature=emb_logo

Then click on #This is PE just below the screen on the left hand side.  You will then see the selection of lessons come up.  Click on Lesson 3 ‘Throwing for Accuracy’.

4.  Topic

1. This week in Topic we are learning about the impact of the Industrial Revolution on Victorian Britain.  What do you already know about the Industrial Revolution?  Go through the slides that I have uploaded for you.  As we do in class, jot down any key facts.   During the Victorian period the population moved from the countryside to the towns because of the increase in work available in factories.  How did this affect the living conditions and the lives of people in Britain? Think about Jim’s room that he lived in with his family in Chapter 2 of ‘Street Child’.  I have uploaded the worksheets for this week and next week.  First of all, complete Worksheet 2A where you are sorting out information into 3 piles.  Then fill in Worksheet 2B.  You can use the facts from Worksheet 2A and information you jotted down from the slides to fill this in.  Then write a separate section under the heading ‘Both Positive and Negative Effects’ explaining why this was the case.  This will demonstrate that there are two sides to this argument.

2. As an ongoing activity I would like you to work on your own project.  Do a little bit of research about famous Victorians and choose one that you would like to study in more depth. This project will last for the term.  Include illustrations and pictures.  You can either type or hand write your project.  Dip into it when you have finished an activity and have some time.
