Term 1 Week 7

What we are doing in Lilac Class for the wb. 18.10.21

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class

WB: 18.10.21

In Maths in Lilac Class this week, we will be continuing with our work about adding two 4-digit numbers with one exchange and then moving onto two 4-digit numbers with more than one exchange.  We will then be moving onto subtracting two 4-digit numbers where there is one and then more than one exchange.  Lilac Class will be using place value counters to model the exchange and matching this with the written column method.

For English this week, we are writing poems about space and will be looking at examples of space poetry. For example, Pie Corbett’s ‘Six Ways to Look at the Moon and Space Staring’. Lilac Class are learning about the conventions of poetry writing such as the use of metaphors, similes, alliteration and onomatopoeic words.

Our Whole Class Guided Reading text this term is ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C.S. Lewis.  We are reading Chapter Seven and will be required to use our inference skills. Why do you think Lucy might think it’s a nice beaver? Why are the girls upset at the start of the chapter?  Lilac Class will also be summarising the chapter by writing a Trip Advisor review of the beaver house.

In RE this week, we are continuing with our understanding of the importance of confession and penance. We are exploring how we feel when we say sorry to someone that we have upset and how we feel when we forgive.  Lilac Class will then revisit their Big Question ‘What does it mean if God is loving and holy’.

In Science this week, we are visiting the Science Observatory at Herstmonceux.  Not only will have the opportunity to work with hands-on activities but will also have a Telescope Tour and Talk and be involved in a Sun and Moon Workshop.  In ICT this week, we are continuing with our block of learning entitled ‘Coding’.  The children will be reviewing coding vocabulary and will use a design to create a program. In Topic, Lilac Class will be finding out about the religious beliefs of the Ancient Mayans.  In Music, we will be creating graphic scores to describe the music of ‘Mars’ and ‘Venus’ from ‘The Planet’s Suite’ by Gustav Holst.

There will be no homework over the half term break, however there is our Wider Curriculum Matrix with optional activities for your child to do.
