Term 1 Week 2

What we will be doing in Lilac Class for the wb. 13.9.21

What we are doing this week in Lilac Class

WB: 13.9.21

In Maths in Lilac Class, we are comparing and ordering numbers up to 100,000 by applying our understanding from Year 4 and how numbers can be represented in different ways.  We will be representing numbers using place value counters, part-whole models and bar models.  We will then be moving onto rounding numbers within 100,000.  The children will be using their knowledge of multiples of 10, 100, 1,000 and 10,000.  Lilac Class will finish the week exploring numbers to one million and will recognise large numbers represented in a part-whole model.

For English this week, we are continuing with our work on ‘Quest’ by Aaron Becker.  Our first task is to improve and level up our writing about a prediction and then we will focus on setting, exploring what the children in the story see and what they might feel and hear when they discover the world that is behind the wooden door.

Our Whole Class Guided Reading text this term is ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by C.S. Lewis.  We are reading Chapter Two and will be examining the relationship between Mr Tummus and Lucy in more depth particularly using our inference skills.

In RE, as part of exploring our key question ‘What does it mean if God is loving and holy?’ we will be discussing what ‘Omnipotent’, ‘Omniscient’, ‘Eternal’, ‘Holy’ and ‘Loving’ mean and where we can find evidence of these in the Bible.  What did God do to show the meaning of these words?

For Science and ICT this week, we will be continuing with our research about Earth and Space and developing our knowledge about this area of learning.  In Topic, Lilac Class will be involved in role play and as a drama activity we are imagining that we are a Spanish Conquistador explorer who has just discovered a ruined city deep in the Mesoamerican rainforest.  What do we feel about it and what do we want to learn about what we have discovered?  In Art, we are continuing with our whole class Mesoamerican tropical rainforest frieze.
