Term 2 Week 6

Here is an outline of your learning for term 2, week 6:

Term 2 Week 5 – overview

Reading challenge – we have made a visual display to track our home reading.  Each week when reading records are checked, every child who brings their record (completed with their weekly reading)will earn a star.  Remember that 10 minutes reading each day makes a huge difference to overall literacy and especially expanding vocabulary!

Spelling and grammar –we will be practising a selection of spelling words from the statutory year 3 and 4 list.  We will also be revising some grammar features from the past term such as work on tenses.

In English, we will be completing a detailed set of instructions on how to train as a gladiator, using features such as imperative verbs and technical Roman terms.

In Maths, we will complete our unit on area with an assessment before moving on to multiplication and division, starting with the 3 times table.

In guided reading, we have completed our text, The Iron Man, by Ted Hughes.  We will be looking back at the vocabulary wall we have created and entering words into our magpie books.

In RE, our new unit of focus is ‘Incarnation’ and we will be considering the big question, ‘What is the Trinity?’  This week, we will be designing Christmas cards that reflect the text of John 1 and the concept of incarnation.

In history, we will be creating our fact files on different aspects of Roman life so that we can create a shared book.

In art, we will be experimenting with surface pattern as part of our project to create Japanese koi artwork.

PE is on MONDAY MORNING and THURSDAY AFTERNOON with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class or from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Friday mornings.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due in on the following Monday.

Please contact me if you have any queries using the class email address:chestnut@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk

Have a lovely week!

Best wishes,
