Monday Challenge: 8th June

I have made a pattern with matchsticks.

Can you work out how many matchsticks are required to make pattern 5?

What about pattern 6?

What about pattern 7

Do you notice a pattern in your results?

TOP TIP: Try putting your findings into a table. This will help you spot the pattern.

Can you work out the number of matchsticks that would be required to make pattern 100 without actually making it.

TOP TIP: Look for a relationship between the pattern number and the number of matchsticks used.

EXTENSION: Can you write out a formula which shows the relationship between the pattern number (P) and the number of match sticks required (MS)?
