Term 1 Week 5

Here is an overview of your learning in Chestnut Class for Term 1 Week 5

Term 1 Week 5 – overview

We are really looking forward to celebrating harvest festival in church on Tuesday morning.  We have decorated our harvest box and hope that we can fill it with gifts for the foodbank.  They particularly need: tinned potatoes, tinned hot dogs, pasta ‘n’ sauce sachets, soap, antibacterial handwash, laundry tablets (not pods), tinned soup and sugar.  Please make sure items have at least a 6 months use by date.  Thank you in advance for contributing to the essential cause.

Ukulele lessons will continue with Mr Lawrence on Monday morning.

Spelling and grammar - We will be working on spelling more homophones and near homophones.   In grammar sessions, we will look at using the past tense in 2 forms – simple past tense and past progressive tense.

We will be carrying out some assessments in reading, writing and maths this week.  Please reassure your children that these are to gather baseline information and they should not be anxious.

We will be continuing our whole class guided reading of The Magic Finger.  We will read the fifth section over several times together and discuss narrative and language features before completing some questions on what we have read and understood.  We mark our work as a whole class to give children a chance to talk through their answers and learn how to create a ‘model’ response to a particular question type.

In RE we will be delving further into Genesis to look at the story of Adam and Eve and what Christians learn about forgiveness from it.

Science children will continue their hands on work by creating circuits that light bulbs or activate buzzers.

In topic session we will be learning about the power of the Roman army and how the Romans were successful in invading Britain.

PE is on Monday afternoon with Mr Luckhurst.

Reading records have been sent home with most children choosing a book from the selection in class.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on a Wednesday morning.

Homework will be issued this Thursday and is due in on the following Monday.
