Term One Week five

This week will look a little different, as we will be completing some assessments in maths and English. Please reassure your children that these assessments are simply for us to ensure they are on track with their learning, and they should not be worried about completing them.

We are really looking forward to celebrating harvest festival in church on Tuesday morning.  Our harvest box is looking lovely and I hope that we can fill it with gifts for the foodbank.  They particularly need: tinned potatoes, tinned hot dogs, pasta ‘n’ sauce sachets, soap, antibacterial handwash, laundry tablets (not pods), tinned soup and sugar.  Please make sure items have at least a 6-months use by date.  Thank you in advance for contributing to this essential cause.

Guided reading this week will continue with The Hodgeheg by Dick King Smith, moving on to chapters seven and eight. As in previous weeks, questions regarding the narrative and language features will help to confirm understanding of the text, with independent work being completed towards the end of the week.

We will continue with our Stone Age to Iron Age topic, looking this week at the types of evidence used to find out more about the way people lived their lives.

At the request of the PTFA, the children will also have the opportunity to create their Christmas card design for the fund-raising challenge.  A little early this year, but should be fun!

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will continue working with the class to learn about coding in ICT. She will also be looking at fossils, with the children having a go at creating their own! The children will be doing a times table challenge and their weekly spelling test.

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, both sessions will be with Mr Luckhurst.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday this week, with details also on the class blog. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. As usual, we ask that the children aim to read daily, ideally with an adult and please do write a comment in their reading records to tell us how they are getting on. We are encouraging the children to be more independent with their homework and reading records, so please do remind them to put the relevant books in the basket in class. Please make contact if you have any questions regarding the books which are sent home each week – especially if you feel your child’s book is either too easy or too difficult.

I am always happy to answer any questions you may have, so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
