Term One Week Three 20th September 2021

20th September

Term 1 week 3

Overview

Another lovely week in Maple last week, the children have been working hard on their Quest stories and have been recapping some year two maths, ready for this week’s work.

This week we will continue to focus our learning around ‘Quest’ - the wordless book by Aaron Beaker, using this as our theme for a number of different activities. In our English sessions, we will finish our own stories, linked to ‘Quest’, sharing the final stories through more drama and question time.

Guided reading this week will continue with The Hodgeheg by Dick King Smith, moving on to chapters four and five. Again, questions regarding the narrative and language features will help to confirm understanding of the text, with independent work being completed towards the end of the week.

In Maths this week we will continue to focusing on place value, developing our understanding further to include numberlines to 1,000, comparing objects which represent numbers to 1,000 and finding 10 or 100 more, or less, than a given number. Times tables will be an ongoing feature, with the children completing a times table challenge each week.

In RE, Mrs Johnson will be looking at the links between the story of Noah and how we live in the school and the wider community. The children will consider promises they can make to their friends to help keep them safe and make them happy.

On Friday, Mrs Tompsett will continue working with the class to finish their own board games (as part of our ‘Quest’ topic) and we will also be finishing our 3D castles, adding paint to create texture.

Maple class have PE on Thursdays and Fridays, both sessions will be with Mr Luckhurst.

Homework will be sent out on Tuesday this week, with details also on the class blog. Reading Records should come into school daily and will generally be changed on a Monday and Thursday. As usual, we ask that the children aim to read daily, ideally with an adult and please do write a comment in their reading records to tell us how they are getting on. Please do make contact if you have any questions regarding the books which are sent home each week – especially if you feel your child’s book is either too easy or too difficult.

I look forward to meeting with some of you during the ‘Meet the Teacher’ on Thursday after school. Do let me know if you have any questions regarding this.

I am always happy to answer any questions you may have so please do contact me if you have any queries, using the class email address:
