This Week's Home Learning

Term 3 Week 1

Things are a little bit different for the next few weeks so this post is to explain how the home learning activities will be shared each week. At the beginning of every week you will find an overview on the Willow Class blog.  There will be a daily blog post to explain in more detail what your learning is for that day.  All resources and links will be attached. 

Each day’s learning will consist of the following:

At least 20 minutes reading – to be noted in your reading record

A phonics activity

An English activity

A maths lesson with a recorded learning video and activity ideas

A wider learning activity for either:  RE, science, art, topic, ICT or PE

Here is an overview of the week:

Tuesday

Reading- While learning from home, you should be aiming for at least 20 minutes reading per day. You could read the book that is in your book bag or pick a book from home.

Maths- We will upload a learning video for you to watch and some maths activities for you to complete about adding by counting on.

Phonics-  We will be exploring the ‘ay’ sound and upload some learning activities ideas.

English- This week we will be using the story of Brian Bear’s Picnic for a variety of writing activities. A version of the story will be uploaded for you to read or listen to. Once you have listened to the story,  talk about your favourite part of the story and think about what happened in each part of it. Can you draw a map of Curtis, Bertha and Gertie’s journey to the picnic at Friary Wood? Can you retell the story in the right order?

Science- We will add some information about Winter and ask you to make a picture about some of the features of Winter.

Wednesday

Reading- As well as your regular 20 minutes of reading. We will add a reading comprehension activity for you to complete.

Maths- We will upload a learning video for you to watch and a maths worksheet for you to complete about adding by counting on.

Phonics-  We will be exploring the ‘ou’ sound and upload some learning activities ideas.

English- We are focusing on the story of Brian Bear’s picnic again and today we will be thinking about what we would include if you were going on a picnic.

RE: This term in RE we will be looking at the word ‘Gospel’ and thinking about the question ‘What is the Good News Jesus Brings for Christians?’. This week we will be thinking about what Jesus teaches Christians about how to treat others,

 Thursday  

Reading- We will add the link for a video of Mrs Pring reading The Twits by Roald Dahl. We will also add a short activity for you to complete relating to the text.

Maths- We will upload a learning video for you to watch and a maths worksheet for you to complete about adding ones using number bonds.

Phonics-  We will be exploring the ‘ie’ sound and we will upload some learning activities ideas.

English- Today we are going to think about inviting people to a picnic and what we would need to include in our invitation. We will look at Brian’s invitation and think about how we can make it better

P.E. We will add the link for an online PE activity for you to complete at home.

Friday

Reading- At least 20 minutes of reading. We will add a reading comprehension activity for you to complete.

Maths- Look back at the learning video that was posted on Wednesday. Use this understanding to complete the challenges. If you complete all the challenges and need something extra, contact us via the class email.

Phonics-  We will be exploring the ‘ea’ sound and we will upload some learning activities ideas.

English- Today we are going to think about teddy bears and you will be drawing and labelling a picture of your favourite bear. It could be a famous bear, like Paddington Bear or Winnie the Pooh, or it could be your own special bear.

ICT- We will set you some challenges on Purple Mash.
