Term 2 Week 5

Find out about this week's learning

In Maths this week we are going to continue learning about numbers up to 20, with a particular focus on the teen numbers.  We will be comparing groups of objects and numbers and putting them in order. If you want to know more about what we are covering, you can look for extra activities on the White Rose Maths website Year 1 Home Learning Week 12 https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/week-12-number-place-value-within-20/.

In English we will be continuing to look at the story of the Three Little Pigs. We will be using time connectives to write about the story (First, Then, Next), writing a description of one of the Three Little Pigs and starting to plan our own story. As part of our Science work this week we will be building  houses for the Three Little Pigs using different materials and will test them to see which we think is best.

In Phonics we will be practising reading and writing some tricky words: they, have, like, some, come, was and you. We will also be reading and writing CCVC (consonant, consonant, vowel, consonant) words such as spin, stop, grip, swim and green.

This week in RE we will be talking about how the story of Jesus’ birth is retold in the 4 Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) and talking about the main events in each version.

On Thursday morning the children will be dressing up in their costumes and we will be filmed singing our nativity songs in St Barnabas Church.

Home Learning

Some maths tasks have been set on Purple Mash for you to try.

It would also be fantastic if your child could practise ordering the numbers 11 to 20 at home and counting groups of objects accurately.  This can be done by writing the numbers from 11 to 20 on bits of paper and then mixing them up.  Can your child put them back in order? Alternatively, pick a number card and count out that number of objects (buttons, pasta shapes) or draw that number of dots.

If you want to know more about anything we are learning about or have any questions, please feel free to contact us via the class email address: willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk.
