Term 3 Week 1

Here is an overview of our learning activities for week commencing 10th January 2022

This week we will be checking our children’s progress in Maths, Reading, Phonics and Writing. This means that our timetable will be slightly different this week and we will not be revisiting some of our previous learning.

Willow class will still have PE on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning so please make sure your child has their PE kit in school.  The children will be taking part in dance and drama activities led by Miss Ward on Wednesday and Mr Luckhurst will be teaching the PE lesson on Thursday. In Art we will be making lion masks which we will use in our dance performance of ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight (Wimoweh)’ by The Tokens.

In our Phonics lesson we will be learning about different ways to make the ‘er’ sound (such as ’er’ in ladder, ‘ir’ in bird and ‘ur’ in curl). We will also be reading words with ‘ar’ and ‘or’ sounds in them.

In English we will be thinking about exciting vocabulary to describe everyday heroes and will be writing about some story settings in our independent writing.

In Maths we will be doing some work on addition and subtraction and will also be talking about the names of some 2D and 3D shapes and their properties.

In our Science lessons we will be identifying and describing common animals and learning more about animal groups.

We are starting our new topic in RE and we will be thinking about our key question of the term: What is the Good News that Jesus brings for Christians? This week we are learning about the story of Matthew the Tax Collector and how Jesus is a friend to the friendless.
