Term 6 Week 1

Here is an overview of our learning activities for week commencing 7th June.

Welcome back. We hope that you have been able to enjoy the glorious weather during the last week and are now ready for Term 6. We will be continuing with our 'Explorer' topic this term.

This week in Phonics we will be revisiting the split digraphs ‘a-e’, ‘i-e’ and ‘o-e’ and practising spelling some words with ‘v’ sounds at the end (such as love, save and active). In English we will be starting to plan and write an adventure story about an explorer. We will be adding to our story over the next couple of weeks to develop the children’s storytelling skills. In Maths we will be learning to count to 100, using a 100 square to find numbers and will be partitioning numbers into tens and ones.

This week in RE we will be learning about the Sikh story of the milk and the Jasmine flower and doing some activities based on that. In our topic work we will be learning about Antarctica and talking about the explorer Captain Robert Falcon Scott. We will also be painting our Diwali lamps which we made last term.

This week, reading books will be changed on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. From next week books will return to being changed on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday. This term we are trialling a new system where the children will change their own reading books at the start of the day.

Willow Class will continue to have PE on Wednesday and Thursday this term. Please make sure that your child has their PE kit in school on those days. As the weather is getting hotter it is useful if children bring a water bottle to school with them each day.

If you have any questions or need help with anything please contact us using the class email address (willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk).
