Term 5 Week 5

Here is an outline of your learning for term 5, week 5:

Term 5 Week 5 – overview

We have our usual ukulele lesson on Monday afternoon.

We will continue to have 5 swimming lessons this week from 10.30-12.  This is an extraordinary opportunity for all children to have swimming lessons.  A list of what they need has been sent out already.

Spelling and grammar – we will be revising some of the words from the statutory year 3 and 4 list.

In English, we are beginning a new unit looking at the Anglo-Saxon epic poem, Beowulf.  This week we will be thinking about the role of a hero in this genre of writing and creating our own, complete with descriptions of what makes them such a powerful hero.  We will also focus on setting description using ‘power of 3’ sentences.  We will examine the contrast between the wild landscape outside and the warmth and safety within the walls of the great hall Heorot.

In Maths, we will continue to practise times tables in preparation for the national assessment at the beginning of June.

In science, we will investigate the process of melting as part of our learning about states of matter.

In our geography lesson, we will be comparing the features of two European cities.

In Re, we will be beginning a unit of learning about Hindu Dharma.  We will consider the origin of the religion, including when and where it began.

Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme.  All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class.  Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due on the following Monday.
