Term 6, week 5

The week ahead in Maple Class:
Whole Class Reading this week is using The Dark, by Lemony Snickett. We will investigate the vocabulary, retrieve information and make inferences, working in pairs, individually and as a class.
In English, we will continue using the book, ‘Leon and the Place Between’, focusing on our own story writing based on the book.
In Maths, the main focus will be on fractions, partitioning the whole and finding fractions of an amount.
In Science, we will be continuing with our plant unit this week considering how flowering plants disperse their seeds.
In Art, we will be continuing our individual still-life artwork.
In our Topic work, we will continue looking at the Ancient Egyptians, this week focusing on how Howard Carter found the tomb of Tutankhamun.
Computing continues to build on the desktop publishing unit, and creating our own PowerPoints. We are hoping to have an additional session for this on Tuesday.
PE is on a Monday and Friday again this term, and we will be continuing the athletics unit this week. We also have our Sports Day session on Wednesday morning too. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school, including a water bottle and hat.
Homework is issued on a Tuesday and due back the following Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, or if your child is having difficulty completing the work, please email, or leave a note in the homework book.
Reading Records can come in every day, but should always be sent in on a Monday and Thursday. Books will be changed on those days but we will also do our best to change books every day if necessary. If you have any questions about your child’s reading level, please get in touch.
If you have any questions at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.
Kind regards
Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
