Term 6, week 4

The week ahead in Maple Class:

Whole Class Reading this week continues with the poem ‘The Spider and the Fly’, by Mary Howitt. We will investigate the vocabulary, retrieve information and make inferences, working in pairs, individually and as a class.

In English, we will continue using the book, ‘Leon and the Place Between’, focusing on the use of creative writing when responding to illustrations and using drama to complement our writing.

In Maths, the main focus will be on fractions represented with a bar model and adding fractions.

In Science, we will be continuing with our plant unit, this week considering the role flowers play in the life cycle of a plant.

In Art we will be continuing our still-life unit by starting our own individual pieces of artwork.

In our Topic work, we will continue looking at the Ancient Egyptians, this week focusing on Tutankhamun and his fascinating story.

Computing is still all about desktop publishing, and using our new skills to begin creating an information PowerPoint.

PE is on a Monday and Friday again this term, and we will be continuing the athletics unit this week. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school, including a water bottle and hat.

Homework is issued on a Tuesday and due back the following Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, or if your child is having difficulty completing the work, please email, or leave a note in the homework book.

Reading Records can come in every day, but should always be sent in on a Monday and Thursday. Books will be changed on those days but we will also do our best to change books every day if necessary. If you have any questions about your child’s reading level, please get in touch.

If you have any questions at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.

Kind regards

Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
