Term 6, week 3

I was so impressed with how the children completed their assessments last week. They all worked so hard and should be very proud of themselves.

The week ahead in Maple Class:

Whole Class Reading this week is based on the poem ‘The Spider and the Fly’, by Mary Howitt. We will investigate the vocabulary, retrieve information and make inferences, working in pairs, individually and as a class.

In English, we will continue using the book, ‘Leon and the Place Between’, focusing on the use of prepositions.

In Maths, the main focus will be on fractions on a number line, before moving on to using bar models to investigate equivalent fractions.

In Science, we will be continuing with our plant unit this week, considering the role leaves play in plants.

In Art, we will be continuing our still-life unit, making decisions about our final project.

In our Topic work, we will continue looking at the Ancient Egyptians, specifically the use of hieroglyphics.

Computing is still all about desktop publishing, and using our new skills to further edit and create templates.

PE is on a Monday and Friday again this term, and we will be continuing the athletics unit this week. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.

Homework is issued on a Tuesday and due back the following Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, or if your child is having difficulty completing the work, please email, or leave a note in the homework book.

Reading Records can come in every day, but should always be sent in on a Monday and Thursday. Books will be changed on those days, but we will also do our best to change books every day if necessary. If you have any questions about your child’s reading level, please get in touch.

If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.

Kind regards

Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
