Term 6, week 1

I hope you have all enjoyed the half-term break and welcome to Term 6!
The week ahead in Maple Class:
In Whole Class Reading this week we will be using lyrics from the Disney song, ‘The Bare Necessities’. We will listen to the song and share the lyrics both as a class and in pairs. We will spend time looking at vocabulary, retrieval and inference.
In English, we will start exploring a new book, investigating the illustrations and vocabulary used, and comparing this with texts we have read previously.
Maths will continue to build on the fractions unit, investigating ‘the whole’ and comparing and ordering non-unit fractions.
In Science, we will be continuing with our plant unit this week, considering how leaves contribute to growing plants.
In Art, we will be continuing our still-life unit, experimenting with shading and pencil skills.
In our Topic work, we will continue looking at the Ancient Egyptians, specifically exploring the pyramids and their importance to Ancient Egyptian society.
Computing is all about desktop publishing, and using our new skills to edit and create templates.
PE is on a Monday and Friday again this term, and we will be continuing the athletics unit this week. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.
Homework is issued on a Tuesday and due back the following Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, or if your child is having difficulty completing the work, please email, or leave a note in the homework book.
Reading Records can come in every day, but should always be sent in on a Monday and Thursday. Books will be changed on those days, but we will also do our best to change books every day if necessary. If you have any questions about your child’s reading level, please get in touch.
If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.
Kind regards
Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
