Term 3, week 5

Our Whole Class Reading this week will be focusing on an extract from the book ‘Sam Wu is Not Afraid of Zombies’, by Katie and Kevin Tsang. We will be looking at vocabulary and answering comprehension questions, following the Vipers strategies:

In English, we will continue reading ‘King of the Sky’, by Nicola Davies, with the aim of building confidence when using direct speech as the unit progresses. We will also be doing some research to support our learning in this unit.

Maths will now move to the first block of Multiplication and Division. We will be revising some of the knowledge gained in year two, before moving on to the year 3 content.

In Science, we will be continuing our investigations about rocks and soils, considering how weather and erosion effect our environment.

In Art, we will continue the portrait unit, further building on the skills needed to create a self-portrait, and introducing a new artist to evaluate.

In our Geography topic work, we will continue looking at the United Kingdom.

PE is on a Monday and Friday this term, and we will be continuing the fundamentals unit. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.

Homework is issued on a Tuesday and due back the following Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, or if your child is having difficulty completing the work, please do email, or leave a note in the homework book.

Reading Records can come in every day, but should always be sent in on a Monday and Thursday. Books will be changed on those days but we will also do our best to change books everyday if necessary. If you have any questions about your child’s reading level, please do get in touch.

If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.

Kind regards

Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
