Term 3, week 4

Welcome to another busy week in Maple Class!

Our Whole Class Reading this week will be using an extract from Charlotte’s Webb, by E B White. We will be looking at vocabulary and answering comprehension questions, both as a class and independently.

English will continue focusing on ‘King of the Sky’, a beautiful book by Nicola Davies, with the aim of introducing the children to direct speech as the unit progresses.

Maths will continue to build on the addition and subtraction unit, this week focusing on subtraction with a necessary exchange across the 100s.

In Science, we will be continuing our investigations about rocks and soils.

In Art , we will be building on the new unit, looking at portraits and different options to create a self-portrait, and introducing a new artist to evaluate.

In our Geography topic work, we will continue looking at the United Kingdom.

PE is on a Monday and Friday this term, and we will be starting a new unit this week, looking at the fundamentals of sport. Please ensure your child has their full PE kit in school.

Homework is issued on a Tuesday and due back the following Monday. If you have any questions about the homework, or if your child is having difficulty completing the work, please email on the class email, or leave a note in the homework book.

Reading Records can come in every day, but should always be sent in on a Monday and Thursday. Books will be changed on those days but we will also do our best to change books everyday if necessary. If you have any questions about your child’s reading level, please do get in touch.

If you have any questions, at any point in the year, please email the class email: maple@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk. For any urgent messages, please email the main office email.

Kind regards

Mrs Smallcombe and the Maple Team
