How Do I Take Part?

Step 1- Find the plans and resources on the school website. (You have already done this!)

Step 2: Select an activity from the list below.

Step 3- Follow the link, watch the video, and/or read the instructions.

Step 4- Work together with your child to complete the activity.

Step 5- Record how many ‘Science Week Electrons’ you have earned. You might like to use a tally chart or 10 grids with stickers.

 

2 Electron Activities:

Each time you complete one of these activities, you can add 2 ‘Science Week Electrons’ to your total. You can find instructions for each activity in the document attached to the bottom of this page.

3 Electron Activities:

4 Electron Activities:

Each time you complete one of these SCIENCE PROJECTS, you can add 4 ‘Science Week Electrons’ to your total.

• Make a cake and talk about the changes that happen as you mix all the ingredients together.
• Make shadow puppets.
• Fill a box or your bath with water and find objects that float and sink.
• Make a waterproof boat for your favourite toy.
• Make a bug hotel. Using an old mug or plant pot, fill it with rolled up paper, sticks and grass and put it in the garden for bugs to enjoy.
•  Go on a bug hunt – remember to look under logs and bricks and on leaves.
• Get each member of your family to dip their finger in some paint or ink and print their fingerprint onto a piece of paper. Discuss whether the prints are the same or different
• Can you invent something new? Perhaps a gadget or something to help people? Draw a picture or write a description

 

5 Electron Activity:

If you complete this floating and sinking investigation, you can add 5 ‘Science Week Electrons’ to your total.

• Watch the video of Mr M reading one of his favourite stories:  

-Can you find anything in your house that would float on top of the water in your bath or paddling pool to act as a boat?

- What objects can you find in your house or garden can you use to sink the boat?

-What is the most objects you can use to sink the boat? What do you notice about each object?

-What is the fewest objects you can use to sink the boat? What do you notice about each object?

• If you are still enjoying yourselves, why not repeat the activity with a different sized boat. How does this affect your results?

 

How do I get my certificate?

Don’t forget to count up how many ‘Science Week Electrons’ you have earned in total. Send this information to Mr Mackinnon: beech@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk and we will organise your Stay at Home Science Week Certificate.

The closing date for entries is Tuesday 2^nd June.
