Term 1 Week 7

Keep reading to find out about our learning this week...

In Maths we are going to continue learning about addition.  First, we are going to explore addition ‘fact families’ for the numbers up to 10. We are then going to explore how to work systematically to make sure we have found all the number bonds for numbers up to 10. We are going to be using practical resources to support our Maths work including double-sided counters and Numicon. If you want to know more about what we are covering, you can look for extra activities on the White Rose Maths website Year 1 Home Learning Week 6 (https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/week-6-number-addition-subtraction/).

In English we are going to be starting to plan our own adventure story about a magic red crayon. The inspiration for this is our whole school book Journey, where the girl uses a magic red crayon to draw a door and set off on an adventure. We will be discussing how our story starts, what happens in the middle of the story and how the story ends.

In computing, we have been learning how to log onto the laptops and have been exploring some of the activities on Purple Mash. This week we are going to use “2Go” to explore how to move something from one point to another using the arrow keys.  A 2Do has been set on Purple Mash so you can practise these skills at home if you wish.

We are going to be doing some finger painting this week to create a Christmas card design. This activity has been organised by the PTFA to help raise much needed funds for the school. Further details about how to purchase your child’s design will be sent out in November.

Home Learning

Please continue reading with your child at home and use their yellow reading record book to indicate when you would like their book changed.

A spelling 2Do has been set on Purple Mash for er and ir sounds.  A copy of the words we are practising is attached to the bottom of this blog.

If your child wants to practise their story-writing skills at home, they can use the orange home learning book or use 2Create a Story on Purple Mash. Please feel free to send in a photograph of any work completed at home.
