Term 1 Week 4

Welcome to the Willow Class Blog!

Monday 28th September

We have started to explore the story in the book Journey by Aaron Becker. This is a whole school text which we will be using it in some of our English and topic work throughout this term. If you would like to watch a version of Journey, please follow this link. This week we will be thinking about what the girl might see and hear as she goes through the red door into the woods. We will be using adjectives to describe the woods and link this to the woods in the story of The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson.

In Phonics this week, we are revisiting letters sounds (ch, sh, th, ng, ai) and learning a new letter sound (ay). The Phonics Play website has free games for your child to practise reading these letter sounds. You could also try spotting these letter sounds in words you see or read at home.

In Maths, we are going to be comparing groups of objects and saying which group has more, which group has less or noting that two groups have the same amount. We will be learning to use the symbols: < (less than), > (more than) and = (equal to). If you want more details about what we will be covering, there are home learning videos available on the White Rose Maths Website under Home Learning ,Year 1,Week  3 (https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/week-3/).

In PE we are going to continue to explore different ways of moving and jumping in gymnastics lessons and practising ball skills in football with Mr Luckhurst. In RE, we will continue to explore what Christians believe God is like and we will be thinking about the ways that Christians worship God. In Computing we will be logging onto the laptops and using Purple Mash to draw a picture of a scene from Journey. In Art, we will be creating water and forest scenes using a collage.

For Home Learning this week, please practise reading Phase 2 tricky words (to, the, no, go, I, into) and Phase 3 tricky words (he, she, we, me, be, was, my, you, they, are, all). There are flashcards are attached to this blog for you to use.

If you would like to know more about any of these learning activities or would like advice on how your child’s learning can be supported from home, please do not hesitate to contact us via the class email address: willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
