Term 2 Week 5

Here is an overview of our learning activities for week commencing 29th November 2021.

This week in Phonics, we will be learning about different ways of making the ‘igh’ sound. This will include the ‘i-e’ split digraph as in kite, ‘ie’ as in tie, ‘i’ as in kind and ‘y’ as in dry. We will also be revisiting other sounds that we have learnt this term to check which ones the children can remember and which ones we need to revisit.

In Maths, we will be counting forward and backwards to 20, reading and writing numbers from 11 to 20 and learning about the properties of numbers up to 20. We will also be doing some number fluency work on number bonds for 8 and comparing groups of objects to see which group has more and which group has fewer items.

In English, we will be focussing on rhyming words and sentence construction this week. We will be using the book ‘Oi Frog!’ by Kes Gray and Jim Field as inspiration for our sentences. We will start by listening to the story and identifying some rhyming words. We will then move onto constructing sentences in a similar way to the story and will try to think of some new combinations of rhyming words.

In RE, the class will be talking about what we are personally thankful for at Christmas. We will also be thinking about our key question of the term: Why does Christmas matter to Christians?

In Art we will be looking at some more pictures of Antony Gormley’s sculptures and using these as inspiration of our own models of people.

Willow class have PE on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning this week.  We will be using big equipment in the hall on Wednesday and playing team games with Mr Luckhurst on Thursday.

We will also be rehearsing our songs for the KS1 nativity. The children are doing really well and we are looking for to performing our play on 14th and 15th December. Please could all costumes be in school by 7th December.
