Term 5, Week 1.

Welcome back Maple Class. We hope that you have had a fun and relaxing Easter Break. Enjoying some new found freedom and the lovely, if slightly chilly, sunshine.

What are we learning this week...

We are going to start our brand new topic this week on Ancient Egyptians.

We will start by looking at the book 'Cinderella of the Nile' by Beverley Naidoo. This book as some wonderful language and captivating pictures and we are really hoping that the children enjoy studying it.

We shall look at what do we already know about Ancient Egypt and can we locate the present Egypt on a map. We will also think about what we want to find out about over the next few weeks.

In Maths we will carry on with fractions, this week we will look at counting in tenths, making a whole and fractions of amounts.

In whole class reading we are continuing with the story 'The Hodgeheg' by Dick King Smith. We will also be having a reminder of how phonics can help us decode difficult words and looking at different types of comprehension questions.

We are very lucky to be able to have booked 'The Drama Hut' they will be visiting us in June to hold a workshop on Ancient Egypt. I will send out a letter confirming everything in a few weeks. Maple Class still have the money they raised for their trip in Y2 that unfortunately did not happen so I am hoping that will cover most of the cost.
