Term 4 Week 1

This week, we are going to start a brand new topic called, ‘A Knights Quest’. In this topic, we will explore the facts and fiction that surrounds Knights and Castles. We will use both primary and secondary sources of information to explore medieval knights and castles and focus particular attention on the Norman invasion of England and the struggle for the crown. We will also read stories about Knights and Castles and use these to inspire our own quest narrative. We will design our own kingdom, inhabit it with heroes and villains and plan a quest for our brave Knight to complete. We will use this quest as inspiration to complete pieces of instruction, description and narrative writing.

In English this week, we are going to start to learn about instruction writing. We will learn the basic requirements of an instruction text and then use them to create our own piece of instruction writing. We will also complete a range of reading activities including a live story time where we will read an information text about Knights and Castles.

In Maths, we will refresh our understanding of money and then explore how we can use previously learned addition techniques to add values of money efficiently. In number fluency, we will continue to expand our repertoire of mental addition techniques.

We will also complete a range of Science, P.E, R.E, Art and Design activities in line with our normal time-table.

On Friday things will be a little different. We will not post any new English or Maths activities. Instead we will give you some time to catch up with activities that you missed out on during the week. We will set a create task and some Friday Challenges to keep you busy and give you a chance to work away from the screen. Remember, if you complete any of the Friday challenges, send them in to us so we can show them off during celebration assembly. Who knows, you might even win a Friday Challenge certificate!
