Term 6 Week 2

Here is an overview of our learning activities for the week commencing 9th June 2025.

This week, the children in Willow Class will be completing the Year 1 phonics screening check, which is a national assessment. The children will work individually with Mrs Duncombe and try to read some nonsense and some real words. We will be completing other assessments to check the children’s progress in maths, reading and writing.

In our main phonics lessons we will be learning about words containing an unspoken ‘e’, such as give, freeze, dance and mouse. We will also be reading the words ‘know’ and ‘colour’ and writing the words ‘April’ and ‘July’.

In our main Maths lessons we will be learning about positional and directional language in relation to objects, including left, right, above, below, forwards and backwards.

In RE, we will be learning about the Sikh story of Duni Chand and The Silver Needle. We will then complete some activities related to the story.

In PE, we will be continuing to develop our athletic skills. Please make sure your child’s PE kit is in school on Tuesday afternoon and Thursday morning.

On Wednesday afternoon, Willow Class will be joining the rest of the school for the St Barnabas Day procession to the church.

If you have any questions or need help with anything, please contact us using the class email address (willow@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk).
