Term 6 Week 1

Here is an outline of your learning for term 6, week 1:
Term 6 Week 1 – overview
Spelling and grammar – we will be looking at using apostrophes for possession, with single and plural nouns.
In English, we will continue our unit looking at the Anglo-Saxon epic poem, Beowulf. This week we will be learning about the ‘show not tell’ technique in narrative writing. We will identify how it is used in the adaptation of Beowulf that we are reading. We will then practise using the technique to describe the various emotions that the characters display. We will also look at how tension is created within the narrative and consider how we can add these techniques to our own writing.
In Maths, we will complete part 1 of our fractions unit. We will look at hundredths as decimals, hundredths on a place value chart and divide a 1 or 2-digit number by 100. We will also continue to practise for the national times table assessment.
In science, we will begin learning about the human digestive system. We will start with learning about teeth with an investigation into things that affect tooth enamel!
In our history lesson we will be introduced to the Anglo-Saxons! We will be asking who they were, where they came from and why they came here.
In RE, we will be beginning a unit of learning about Hindu Dharma. We will consider the origin of the religion, including when and where it began.
Reading records will be sent home, with free-reading children choosing a book from the selection in class or bringing one from the reading scheme. All children have an additional book in their tray for reading sessions in class. Please could we have reading records in school to be checked on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.
Homework will be issued this Wednesday and is due on the following Monday.
