Our learning from Term 4 Week 5
Phonics
This week in phonics, we have learnt the tricky word my and the sounds oo (long) and oo (short). The children have practised saying the sounds, blending words containing them, and writing these words. We also worked on writing sentences using both our tricky words and new sounds.
Maths
In maths, we have been focusing on identifying when two sets are equal in number. We have also explored doubles, learning to say what the whole is when there are two equal parts. Additionally, we have been using positional language, describing where objects are in relation to each other.
PE
In PE (dance), the children worked on creating movements and adapting simple dance patterns. They also had fun making up their own verses of The Wheels on the Bus and performing them with actions!
RE
In RE, we recapped the Easter story, discussing whether it is a happy or sad celebration and how it makes us feel. We then explored Easter gardens, learning about their different parts and what they represent before creating our own.
People who help us
This week, we also focused on dental hygiene. We talked about dentists and what they do and why brushing our teeth is important, how to do it properly, and how long for. The children gave instructions on how to brush their teeth, and we all practised brushing for two minutes together!
Another exciting topic we explored was the life cycle of a frog. We learnt all about frogs and even got to see real frog spawns and tadpoles in the classroom! We will continue to observe them as they grow into froglets.
To end the week, the children took part in our sponsored walk on Friday. A huge well done to everyone who participated, and thank you to those who helped raise money to support our school!
Welcome Wednesday is every week from 8:30–9:00am—come into the classroom to read with your child or see what they have been learning!
Star of the week: Congratulations to Oscar K, who is our star of the week, for demonstrating great understanding and participation with 'doubles' in maths. Oscar K will be taking home his certificate and Wilfred the Elephant to write in the book all about his time spent with Wilfred over the next week and will bring him back next Thursday.
Please remember to read with your child, even for just 5 minutes! Please also remember to record it in the reading record. We will only change your child's book if you have read with them 2 or more times in that week! Please remember to have the library book in your children's book bag on Thursday to be changed.
Any issues or concerns we need to know about, please speak to the Acorn team before and after school or email at: acorn@st-barnabas.kent.sch.uk
What a fantastic week of learning!
